I have found that working w a graphic eq and using a narrow Q and pulling it across the entire spectrum at about 8-12 +db is a good way of educating oneself on what's going on, and finding problem frequences.Īnd I bet just finding a good engineer to work w for a few hours would also be highly beneficial. My suggestion, look less and listen more. I found the concept interesting, but in actuallity it was slow and certianly not of any use for doing individual tracks (just thinking about it makes me shudder) I got harbal years ago when it first came out, there is one big problem with it, its not a very good eq, and I found it counter-intuitive. I am also surprised that the similar eqs that do exist are mostly intended for mastering when this type of eq seems much more suited to mixing to me I am surprised there are so many matching eqs out there and not anything like I am looking for where you manually manipulate the graph, allowing you to match only as much as you see ( hear) fit. The abilty to compare a reference as in Har-bal could be helpful also.
I'd like it to allow you to design a single filter by manipulating the graph of the average frequency spectrum as in the version of Har-bal that I demoed. I am looking for something that I can use in the mix as my main eq on several tracks rather than as a mastering eq. I also wonder how practical it would be to run several instances of the plugin on different tracks in a mix? (I don't have my new computer yet and I was testing the plugin out on one that is not powerful enough to test that aspect.) Ozone has close to what I want, but it is still modeled after a typical eq, where you have a discrete amount of filters that you have to combine to get the result and I also wish there was a way to change the 'weighting factor' of the spectral display. As I was trying to say in my first post, I don't need matching eq, and I can't see where Curve EQ could do what I wanted. I did try out Curve EQ and Ozone 3 though. I don't have any powercore hardware so I can't try the Assimilator.
